39th Season of Nutcracker at Paper Mill
By NJB on Tuesday, December 08 2009
This year marks the 39th season of New Jersey Ballet’s production of everyone’s favorite ballet -- Nutcracker. The first performance took place in 1971 at Paper Mill Playhouse, with Edward Villella (then a star with New York City Ballet) as the Cavalier.
After 750 performances, more than 5,000 dancers and children, and a million viewers, New Jersey Ballet’s production of Nutcracker, has become a cherished holiday tradition with generations of theatergoers throughout New Jersey and beyond.
The production features spectacular dancing, colorbul costumes, wonderful special effects, and a sense of holiday magic that has inspired critics to write “It’s a spectacle that never seems to age…magic that should go on and on,” and “One of the best…as good as it gets.” The production will tour the state beginning December 5 and 6 at BergenPAC in Englewood, followed by two performances on December 13 at Middle Township PAC in Cape May Court House and then back to its home theatre, Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, for 12 performances from December 18-27.
