    Chase away the winter blahs with an evening of mixed repertory including favorite pas de deux, excerpts and short pieces from the company’s extensive repertory of classical and contemporary dance and previews of two new works. Following the enthusiastic reception for his Tamoia last spring, Humberto Teixeira comes back with Retorno,which will present  NJ Ballet’s Junior Company in featured roles alongside four of NJB’s professional artists. The other preview is Suite for Six by  David Tamaki, former principal dancer with New Jersey Ballet. David has considerable experience creating works for student workshops and showcases This will be his professional choreographic debut.

  • "Ballet and the Band" with the West Point Concert Band

    Ballet and band music, what a combination! For NJ Ballet’s annual performance in Prudential Hall, the company on stage and the West Point Band in the pit will light up the night with a spectacular program featuring: Edward Villella’s Prelude, Fugue and Riffs; a new ballet by Pedro Ruiz, works by Jerome Robbins and George Balanchine and the choreographic debut of New Jersey Ballet’s own David Tamaki, whose neo-classical work is set to music for military band by music by Gustav Holst.  The program represents the first ever ballet-band collaboration for both the venerable 195 year-old West Point Army Band and NJ Ballet.

    The quintessential classical ballet, Sleeping Beauty is performed by nearly every major ballet company in the world. The tale of a Princess in distress and a gallant Prince who rescues her and wins her heart, Sleeping Beauty is packed with high drama, tender romance, and some of Tchaikovsky’s finest music, all of which have made it an enduring favorite for over a hundred years. The ballet is filled with familiar characters such as Princess Aurora, the Handsome Prince, the King and Queen and their splendid Royal Court, as well as characters from the fairy realm including the Lilac Fairy, the wicked Carabosse, Puss in Boots, Red Riding Hood, the Blue Bird and the Enchanted Princess.  This 90 minute production for Young Families is accompanied by New Jersey Ballet’s original “storyteller” narration so even the littlest theater-goers can keep up with the story.

    A charming ballet about a  wooden puppet who longs to be a real boy.  Pinocchio’s adventures and his unfortunate habit of telling fibs get him in trouble with some nasty Ruffians and a giant Whale!
