New Voices. Bold Visions.

Friday, April 24, 2026 at 7:30pm - Saturday, April 25, 2026 at 3pm

NJPAC | 1 Center Street, Newark, N J 07102

New Jersey Ballet returns to NJPAC with New Voices. Bold Visions., a celebration of the artists shaping the future of ballet. This powerful program features the addition of Red Angels, Ulysses Dove’s iconic 1994 work created for New York City Ballet’s Diamond Project. A showstopper since its premiere, Red Angels fuses the precision of classical ballet with unexpected, vernacular movements to create a work of visceral intensity. Four dancers, dressed in striking scarlet and illuminated in fiery light, perform with unrelenting athleticism to an electrifying score for solo electric violin. Dove himself reflected on the ballet as an exploration of the Balanchine aesthetic—its speed, legginess, and formality—refracted through his own bold, dramatic lens. “The dancers are angelic,” he remarked. “And for me, the angels of the senses are red.”

Alongside this powerful addition to the repertory, the evening also features a world premiere by Roderick George, acclaimed choreographer and 2024 recipient of the prestigious Princess Grace Award for Dance Performance and Choreography. Sur le Fil, a striking work by Penny Saunders, Resident Choreographer at Grand Rapids Ballet and a 2016 Princess Grace Choreographic Fellowship recipient, brings her evocative and cinematic style to the stage. Don’t miss this evening of bold storytelling, fresh perspectives, and exceptional artistry envisioned by Artistic Director Maria Kowroski.
